LAND CLEARING BY A CLASS A CONTRACTOR
Take back your land, often in a single day.
Overgrown land can feel overwhelming. Our commercial tracked loader and forestry mulching head grind brush, briars, and small trees right where they stand, so there’s no burn pile and no hauling for brush and small trees. We take the same care with your land that we take with a home.
One pass. Done.
Traditional clearing means cutting, piling, burning or hauling, and waiting. We do it in one pass. Our commercial John Deere 325P track loader with a high-flow mulching head grinds brush, briars, and small trees right where they stand. No burn piles. No hauling fees for brush and small trees. No brush heaps left to rot. You get a cleared lot, usually the same day.
Gentle on your land. Easy on you.
Rubber tracks spread the machine’s weight, so it’s much gentler on your soil than a bulldozer. The mulch left behind helps hold the ground in place when it rains. Most half-acre to two-acre jobs finish in about a day.
Easy on the ground
Rubber tracks spread the weight and protect your topsoil from heavy compaction.
Mulch holds the soil
The shredded layer helps keep slopes from eroding in a heavy rain.
Nothing to haul
No trucking, no dump fees, no burn pile.
What we can do for you
Acreage and overgrown land
Take back pastures, fence lines, and ground that’s gotten away from you.
Trails and sightlines
Walking paths, ATV trails, hunting lanes.
Building lots
A clear, build-ready lot for a home, addition, or sale.
Driveways and access
Fresh gravel, repaired washouts, and proper drainage.
Prepping a lot to build or sell?
A cleared lot shows better and builds faster. We work with landowners, builders, flippers, and realtors, and we’re happy to schedule more than one lot at a time.
Simple pricing, no surprises.
Most land clearing jobs fit one of two packages. Each includes travel and setup. After we walk your land, we confirm which package fits and put the price in writing before we start. If a job looks like it will run longer than your package, we’ll tell you before we go over, and you decide how to proceed.
Bigger project? Multi-day jobs and larger acreage get custom pricing. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll put together a quote.
Small job? Have something that won’t fill half a day? We’ll come take a look and handle smaller jobs case by case. Our minimum is one hour on site, at $625.
Good to know: Mulching cuts brush and trees down to ground level. Stumps and roots stay in the ground. Need them removed? Ask us.
Packages are a starting point based on estimated machine time. A final price comes after we walk your property, and we’ll confirm it with you before we start.
Not sure about the rules? We are.
Virginia has requirements for land disturbance, and areas near the Chesapeake Bay have extra ones. We’ll tell you up front what your project needs, and help you with the paperwork.
Land Clearing FAQ
Clearing land goes best when we work on it together. Here’s what to expect, and what we’ll need from you. If your question isn’t here, just ask.
What we need from you
-
If it’s needed, we request a free 811 locate so public lines like electric, gas, and water are marked. 811 doesn’t mark private lines, and that’s where we’ll need your help.
-
You know your property best, so we’ll lean on you for the private lines 811 doesn’t cover: septic tanks and drain fields, well lines, propane lines, private electric to a barn or garage, and invisible dog fences. We can’t see them, so marking them is the owner’s job. We’ll also go over your boundaries together at the site visit. Please mark them with stakes, flagging tape, or paint, and wrap any trees or landscaping you want to keep in ribbon. If something isn’t marked to keep, we’ll treat it as part of the clearing area.
-
Tell us about it up front. Old dump sites, fencing wire, concrete, tires, and buried trash can seriously damage our mulching head. If we find something unexpected, we’ll stop and talk it through with you before going further. Damage to our equipment from hazards we weren’t told about is the owner’s responsibility, which is why a quick walk-through together helps.
Stumps and roots
-
No, and this is the most important thing to know. Mulching cuts everything down to ground level and grinds it into mulch. It doesn’t dig out roots. The roots stay in the ground, which holds the soil in place and prevents erosion.
-
We cut as close to the ground as we safely can, typically one to three inches. On rocky ground, steep slopes, or where there’s hidden metal, we leave them a bit higher to protect our equipment.
-
Not right away. A standard lawn mower will hit the stumps, so plan on a tractor or brush hog until the stumps decay over the next few years.
-
If you’re pouring concrete, paving, or planting a finished lawn, the stumps need to come out. We can handle stump removal, root raking, and grading for an additional fee. It’s a different process from mulching and isn’t included in our standard packages.
What to expect
-
Think natural and clean, not golf course. You’ll have a layer of wood mulch that holds soil in place and keeps weeds down. Depending on what we cleared, it can range from fine shreds to chunkier wood pieces, and it breaks down into the soil over time.
-
We can grind trees up to about 6 to 8 inches across. Larger trees can be cut and logged or piled the way you’d like, since grinding big trunks isn’t practical. We’ll talk it through at your site visit.
-
Mulching is easier on remaining trees than bulldozing, because it doesn’t disturb the roots. In thick brush right around a tree you want to save, minor bark scuffing can happen. We work carefully around anything you’ve marked.
Weather and ground conditions
-
We’ll check the ground before we start. Running heavy equipment on soaked soil can leave deep ruts, so if conditions aren’t right, we’ll reschedule rather than damage your land. We’ll let you know as early as we can.
-
No. Our machine needs firm, stable ground. We can’t work in standing water, wetlands, or saturated creek bottoms.
-
Some track marks are a normal part of any job. If you’d like us to go ahead on damp ground to keep your timeline, we’ll talk through the tradeoff first, and the owner takes care of any ruts, re-seeding, or regrading afterward. We’ll scrape and sweep large mud piles from your driveway before we leave, and a final pressure wash is up to you. If mud makes a public road slick, we’ll pause until it’s safe.
Protecting your property
-
We take care, but heavy equipment can leave marks. It can scuff asphalt, concrete, and pavers, and it will leave track prints on lawns. Shallow culverts, concrete edges, and sidewalks don’t have much support underneath, so show us where they are and we’ll steer clear. To protect a driveway, you can give us an unpaved route in, or we can lay protective mats for an additional fee. Normal wear from moving the machine across the property, and damage to weak spots we weren’t told about, is the owner’s responsibility.
